The First Weekend & Irene

This whole blogging thing is still new to me. I'm sure I'll get some tips and corrections from Alison after she reads it :), but here goes.

After arriving in DC on Friday most activities have revolved around preparing for and hiding from Hurricane Irene. In the end she wasn't all she was cracked up to be, but it makes for a cool story.

After moving in we went to the nearby grocery store to stock up on food and water and found a line to get IN the store. Fortunately the store is all organic so I've now got a good stash of organic milk, cereal, and pasta.

Georgetown
Saturday was pretty rainy, but we decided to get and about. Trevor and I went to the Smithsonian- American History Museum in the morning. In the afternoon we went to check out Georgetown and found a cool little Spanish "Bodega" and had some tapas (jamon, chorizo, aceitunas, etc...). After getting soaked in the rain we came back to the Barlow Center for some hurricane safety instructions and spent the rest of the night hanging out inside. The wind blew and it rained a lot, but I think we missed the brunt of the hurricane.

"La Bodega"

Sunday has been super nice. Chuch was cancelled becuase of the hurrricane so we had Sacrament Meeting here at the BC and then spent a sunny afternoon on the mall. Today is the 48th anniversary Martin Luther King's "I Have a Dream" speech and this afternoon a guy gave the speech word for word in the same place and time that King did on the Lincoln Memorial. Way cool.

Last week in Provo

I'm not yet completely sold on the idea of my own blog, but it seems like a cool way for me to update people on what I'm doing. Hopefully this will prevent me from being the guy who posts on Facebook too much and too often.

For those who don't know, I leave in about a week to spend the rest of the year as an intern in Senator Hatch's office. I don't know exactly what my job will entail, but it will focus on the Senator's work with the Senate Finance Committee.

I'm excited to meet new people and experience a new place. Kind of feels like the week before transfers :)
